A Sad Goodbye: This year RKS has experienced a drop in enrollment which will eventually put a significant strain on our budget. After hours of trying to make the numbers work, the board made the difficult decision to cut a full-time position. On Tuesday I will begin my new job at Spencerville Adventist Academy. It has been an honor to serve this school, work with its staff, and interact with these students. Part of my heart will always be here! Blessings ~ Jan Yakush
New Principal: Beginning next Tuesday, Cindy Possinger will be filling in as our interim principal. Many of you already know Cindy from her helping as an aide in the 1st and 2nd classroom. She also heads up our PFE grant program. We look forward to working with her for the rest of this school year.
Labor Day: There will be no school on Labor Day, September 3. Enjoy your three-day weekend.
Let's Move Day: On Friday, September 7, we will participate in the yearly “Let's Move Day”. Parent participation on this day is encouraged. We will meet at War Memorial Park in Martinsburg where physical activities will be planned for the morning. Students will be dropped off between 7:45 and 8:00 am at the State Farm Pavilion (upper section, near volleyball court) at the park and picked up at noon. Please have your child wear sneakers on this day since there will be a lot of movement. A healthy mid-morning snack will be provided. There will be no Before or After School Care on this day since we are not on the school site for this event.
Dress Down Fridays: Fridays are Dress Down Days which means that your child does not need to be in school uniform on Fridays. No sleeveless shirts and no open toed or open heeled shoes. Check out the school handbook for more details on appropriate attire. Monday thru Thursday your child should be following school uniform. Polo style shirts in any solid color and pants, longer shorts, dresses, skirts, in tan, navy blue or black. Preschoolers are welcome to wear leggings.
Subway Orders: A Subway order form was sent home with the students today. If you would like to order, please have your child turn in the order form and money to his or her teacher no later than Wednesday next week. Subway orders will be filled on Thursdays.
RenWeb: Parents can check their child's grades (Grades 1-8) and attendance on the RenWeb website. Go to renweb.com and choose the login button at the top and the and the parent login option. You will be prompted to put in our district code which is CC-SDA. Next you will put in your email address that you have given us and then you will create a password. Please let Kim Harris know if you have any issues.
School Plan for Inclement Weather: When Berkeley County Schools close or delay school for inclement weather, we will do the same. If there is a 2 hour delay on a Friday, we will close at 2:30 pm, instead of 2:00 pm. We highly recommend that you receive texts from Berkeley County Schools regarding delays and closures. To do so go to wvde.state.wv.us/closings/. Please remember that our school calendar does not match the Berkeley County Schools calendar. We only follow them for inclement weather. If Berkeley County Schools are not in session and we experience bad weather, your child's teacher will text you if we have a delay or closing.
Thank You! We would like to thank Sondra Shields, our After School Care Director, for keeping our flower beds looking beautiful over the summer! She worked very hard in the heat and rain weeding our flower beds. We also want to thank David Chapman and his crew for mulching our playground areas, removing weeds from the playground equipment areas, and weed whacking in hard to get places! We appreciate all of your hard work and volunteered time!
