Tardiness: School begins each day at 8:00 am. Our doors open at 7:45 am (Before Care begins at 7:00 am). There is a 15 minute window for your children to get in the building, put their backpacks away, use the bathroom, etc. Please aim to be at the school by 7:45 am. When your child is late it is very disruptive to the classroom.
Stamp Club: Students in grades 3-8 may join Stamp Club. The first meeting is next Wednesday, September 7, from 3:15-4:15 pm. Stop by Mrs. Bankes's room to get an application. The cost for the year is $10.
Staff Development: Next Thursday, September 8, school will dismiss at noon for Staff Development. No lunches will be needed on this day unless your child is staying for After School Care which will run from 12:15 to 5:45 pm.
RenWeb: Parents can check their child's grades (grades 1-8) and attendance on the RenWeb website. Go to renweb.com and choose the log in button at the top and the parent log in option. You will be prompted to put in our district code which is CC-SDA. Next you will put in your email address that you have given us and then you will create a password.
Monday/Wednesday Clubs: This year we are offering after-school clubs on both Mondays and Wednesdays. Several clubs will meet more than once each month. Some are free. Some are not. Some are required in conjunction with Student Council and the Christmas program. We hope your children will participate and enjoy. Clubs will begin Wednesday, September 7. Sign-ups and descriptions are available in the school hallway. Some are first come first serve.
Pathfinder Enrollment Night is Thursday, September 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for ages 10 and up. Join Pathfinders to earn your canoe honor and other honors. Camping skills will be taught from 10:00 to 1:00 on the first Sunday of the month beginning October 2 thru May 7 (except January 1, 2017). Please come to the lower back entrance of the Martinsburg Adventist Church to enroll.
Pathfinder Canoeing HonorSunday, September 18: Training will be held at the beautiful Sleepy Creek Lake. Meet at the Martinsburg Adventist Church at 10:00. Bring your picnic lunch. Parents are welcome to drive and help. Call Fred Geiger at 304-886-4693 or Cindy/Paul Possinger at 304-263-7704 to make your reservation.
Volunteer Log Book: There is a blue volunteer log notebook in the school office for parents to log their volunteer time. Anytime you drive for a field trip or volunteer at the school you should record it in the notebook. You can also email Kim and she will write it in for you. The names in the notebook are alphabetized by your child's last name.
Let's Move Day: Our annual Let's Move Day will take place at the Greenbrier State Park in Boonsboro, MD on Friday, September 16. Students in grades K-8 will be transported from RKS to the park at 8:00 am and parents are encouraged to help drive students and to stay to help with the physical activities at the park. If you are not able to go to the park, your child will be transported to the park and back to the school. School will dismiss at noon after being served a lunch by our Home & School Committee. There will be no charge to get in the park, you will just need to tell the parking attendant that you are with Rocky Knoll School. Preschool students will have a “Let's Move Day” at Rocky Knoll School and will need to bring a sack lunch. At 12:15 After School Care will begin and run until 5:45 pm.
Adventurer Club: Adventurer Club (a scouting type of club for grades K-4) at the Martinsburg Adventist Church is signing up new members now! Adventurers will be meeting about twice a month on Thursday nights from 6:00-8:00 pm. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for September 8. After School Recreation for Grades 4-8 from 3:15-4:30 pm: Next Thursday the team sport will be Dodge Ball/Basketball Ball. Kids who stay have to play, or go to After School Care. Students not picked up promptly at 4:30 pm will be sent to After School Care.
