Martin Luther King Jr. Day: School will be closed on Monday, January 16, on
Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Enjoy the three day weekend.
School Plan For Inclement Weather: When Berkeley County Schools close or delay school for inclement weather, we will do the same. We announce our delays on the local radio stations and on television on WHAG. If you would like to receive texts from Berkeley County Schools regarding delays and closures then go to wvde.state.wv.us/closings/. Please remember that our school calendar does not match the Berkeley County Schools calendar. We only follow them for inclement weather.
Water Bottles: We encourage students to bring water bottles. What we do not encourage is students bringing water bottles filled with something other than water. Students do not need the extra sugar or the hyper-ness that comes from the added sugar. In addition, should there be a spill, the sugar in the beverage attracts dirt, which in turn stains the carpet. Water bottles with screw-on lids are best.
8th Grade Weekly Fundraisers: The 8th graders are raising money for graduation and class trip. Throughout the week they have different things for sale. Tuesday- pizza and snack cart. Wednesday – school supplies and frozen fruit bars. Thursday – snack cart. Friday – bake sale. These all happen at lunch. So if you want to share a few shekels with your child for these offerings, the 8th graders thank you in advance!
K-4 Gymnastics: We are happy to announce a new gymnastics club for grades K-4. This club will meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 3:15-4:15 pm. The cost is $45 for the semester. Gymnastics for grades 5-8 will meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month and will also cost $45 for the semester. Sign up sheets were sent home today.
Cell Phones: Just a reminder that student's cell phones should be kept in their backpacks unless the teacher has asked them to use them for something school related. Cell phones should not be taken out of backpacks during After School Care.
Shooting Stars Basketball: The Shooting Stars (Grades 1-4) basketball practice will be on Monday, January 23, from 4:00-5:00 pm followed by a game from 5-6 pm.
National Popcorn Day: On Thursday, January 19, the Home & School Committee will be selling popcorn for 50 cents during lunch time to celebrate National Popcorn Day.
Dinosaurs! A 3-D Experience for All Ages: Rich Aguilera, “the Mud Guy” from Guide Magazine and 3ABN Kids Time will be presenting the Washington DC/Baltimore area on Saturday, January 21, at 6 pm at the Paint Branch High School Auditorium in Burtonsville, MD. Did You Know?Did you knowthat at President Kennedy’s 1961 inauguration, Robert Frost was unable to recite the poem he had written specifically for the event? Snow covered the ground that day, and the glare prevented Frost from being able to see the manuscript of his new piece, “Dedication.” Instead, he recited his poem “The Gift Outright” from memory.
