You are invited toSTEMFest 2019 on Sunday, October 13, from 12:00-4:00 pm at the Highland View Academy Gymnasium/Administration Building. There will be hands-on STEM activities, take home materials, Team Engineering Challenges, door prizes, and more. Our breakout sessions this year will be highlighting Women in STEM.
Columbus Day: There will be no school on Monday, October 14. Enjoy your 3- day weekend!
Dress Code Reminder: The school board met last night and clarified that students may wear sweaters in solid colors of blue, white, or gray that zip or button in the classroom, but students are not allowed to wear any clothing that goes over their head in the classroom unless it is a sweatshirt with logo from Initially Yours in the gray, white, or navy blue. No hooded sweatshirts to be worn in the classroom.
Winter Wonderland Fundraiser: This fall Home & School will be sponsoring a fundraising sale. The money generated through this fundraising drive will go to benefit the Home and School programs throughout the year. Please look through the Winter Wonderland catalog and be sure to share it with neighbors, friends, family, and co-workers. This fundraiser will run through October 15.
End of First Quarter: It is hard to believe but our 1st quarter is already ending on October 18. Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on November 7.
Blessings Program: Next Saturday, October 19, your child will be participating in the school wide Blessings Program for the 11 am church service at Martinsburg SDA Church. For the Parade of Nations students have been asked to dress up to represent a country of origin or country of interest. This music performance will be considered as part of their music grade. Please plan to have your child at the church by 10:45 am. Families are also invited to participate in the various Bible studies for all ages that begins at 9:30 am. A vegetarian potluck fellowship meal will follow the church service.
Christmas Program Speaking Parts: Students that have been assigned speaking parts for the Christmas Program on December 7, will meet after school every Wednesday from 3:15-4:00 pm.
Pictures for Yearbook: If you have pictures from field trips, school events, classroom activities, etc., please send them to email@example.com to possibly have them put in the school yearbook!
Stamp Club: Stamp Club will begin on Monday, October 21 from 3:15-4:00 pm. This club is for students in grades 3-7 and the cost to attend is $20 for the school year. Please send in payment to Beth Bankes. Students will also need a 3 -ring binder. A permission slip is hanging on the bulletin board just inside the main door. The dates that the club will meet are: October 21, November 18, December 16, March 16, April 20, and May 18.
Smores Kits: Home & School is gearing up for the Barn Party on Saturday, October 26. They will be selling smores kits for $1 during the week of October 21 to 25 in the school hallway. Sticks for roasting marshmallows will be provided, just bring your smores kit and you will be all set!
Barn Party: Mark your calendars now for October 26, from 4-9 pm, to come to a Barn Party sponsored by the Martinsburg SDA Church and the RKS Home & School. It will be a fun fall activity for the whole family! Hayrides, face painting, bonfire, and other fun activities have been planned. A haystack supper (like a taco salad) will be provided. Come dressed as cowboys or cowgirls and bring a camping chair for sitting. All activities are free and will take place at 11848 Kemps Mill Rd., Williamsport, MD 21795.
