School Picnic: Our school picnic is this Friday, May 19. Students can be dropped off at the War Memorial Park (State Farm Pavilion near tennis courts) starting at 7:45 am. Students can be picked up at the park at noon. Lunch will provided for students, staff, and parents staying to help. If you are planning to help with the picnic, please let your child’s teacher know so that we can have a head count for lunch. There will be no Before or After School Care on this day.
Volunteers: We want to thank all of our parents that have volunteered in any capacity during this school year! We couldn’t have done it without you! When you walk in the main school door there is a plaque on the wall called the Harold and Minney Pomeroy Memorial Award where we honor two or more volunteers each year. This year we have chosen Kelly Clapsaddle (Nathan’s dad) and Anthony Petredis (Marielle’s dad) for giving of their time and resources to be of service to our school. We really appreciate their help with the repairs of our gym ceiling and many other maintenance projects.
No Pizza Next Tuesday: The 8th graders will be away on their class trip next Monday and Tuesday, so there will be no pizza lunch. Subs will still be available for Thursday.
Clubs Next Week: On Monday, May 22, Student Council will meet from 3:15-4:15 pm and Circuit Club will meet from 3:15-4:00 pm. On Wednesday, May 24, Lego Club will meet from 3:15-4:00 pm and Gymnastics (5-8) will meet from 3:15-4:15 pm.
8th Grade Graduation: Our 8th Grade Graduation will take place at the Martinsburg SDA Church next Thursday, May 25, at 7 pm. The student body will be participating in the program through music. Please have your child at the church by 6:45 pm. Students in grades Preschool through 6th grade should wear performance attire which is white shirt or blouse and black pants.
Volunteer Work: With only 7 days of school left, we want to encourage you to do your 20 hours of volunteer time and record it in the office. We are in major need of flower beds to be weeded around the school and gymnasium and shrubs to be trimmed.
Summer Daycare for Ages 3-8: We are making plans for our Summer Daycare and would like to know how many students will be attending. Please turn in your application as soon as possible. If you are in need of an application you can download it from the home page on our website or pick one up in the office.
Registration for Next Year: It is now time to go to our website and register your child for next school year. When you choose the parent link and put in your email address and password you will see that your child needs some things updated on the application form such as the grade for your child for next school year and the t-shirt size. Also, health insurance needs to be updated each school year. Once the updates are made you will need to save the information and then pay the registration fee through the Pay Pal cart that is shown.
Last Day of School: Our last day of school will consist of some preliminary things in the classrooms, yearbook signing, and closing program in the gym. We will dismiss at 10 am. Parents are welcome to stay or may come back at 10. There is no After School Care on this day.
Did You Know: Measured in straight flight, the spine-tailed swift is the fastest bird. It flies 106 mph (170 km/h). Second fastest is the frigate, which reaches 94 mph (150 km/h).
Quote for the Week: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:25-26 (NIV)
